2018 Tour de France Stage 16
The battle for the King of the Mountains jersey is heating up, and with that comes more risks. Philippe Gilbert takes a heart-stopping, head-first plunge over the wall while on an attacking descent of the Col de Portet d'Aspet. It's immense relief when he climbs back over the wall and flashes a thumbs up. He rides another 60km and finishes the stage. He will abandon the tour afterwards when he learns he has a fractured patella. Adam Yates is only a few km from a stage win, when he also takes a painful spill in the final descent. Julian Alaphilippe looks fresh in his climbs and sharp in his descents. He will remain in Polka-dots for the time being. A stage win for him is icing on the cake.
